Our Grooming FAQs
Does my pet need to be up to date on vaccinations before grooming?
- Yes. Having your pet up to date on vaccinations not only protects your pet but other pets in the center as well.
Dogs must be up to date on Rabies, DAPP (Distemper) & Bordetella (Kennel Cough)
Cats must be up to date on Rabies & FVRCP (Distemper) - Please have your pet vaccinations handy at the time of check-in or email them to us at grooming@starvetfranklin.com or grooming@starvetmuskego.com before the appointment.
How much will the groom cost?
- Prices are based on several factors and can vary depending on the services selected, the breed of pet, the condition of the coat, as well as their health and behavior.
- All services have a base price which can increase. The most accurate pricing can be given in an estimate at the time of check-in. This occurs once the groomer has the chance to assess your pet’s needs.
How long does the groom take?
- Groom times vary depending on the services being rendered and the behavior of your pet. Generally, the groomer asks for 3-4 hours, to allow for breaks if needed, however, your pet will be finished as quickly as possible and you will be contacted for pick up.
Do you kennel my pet?
- Yes, to ensure the safety of all pets in the grooming center, kennels are utilized in order to avoid interactions with other pets and provide a safe place for breaks and awaiting pickup.
- If your pet cannot be kenneled or has known anxiety issues, accommodations can be made by speaking directly with our groomer. Additional fees may apply.
How is my pet dried?
- We will select the most appropriate drying method for your pet based on variables such as hair type, breed, behavior and health. If you have concerns regarding the drying of your pet please discuss this directly with the groomer.
If my pet doesn’t like grooming can you sedate?
- Yes, one benefit to being located in Star Veterinary Centers is the veterinarian is able to sedate your pet and monitor their vitals during the grooming process.
- This specialty appointment would require an appointment with the veterinarian as well as a direct conversation with the groomer. Additional fees will apply.
Grooming POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Age: Pets must be at least 12 weeks of age, with age appropriate vaccines.
Vaccines: The following vaccinations must be up to date and on file for all pets. Proof must be shown prior to your pet’s grooming appointment. We make many efforts to request this information. Failure to provide vaccine status prior to your appointment may result in cancellation of your appointment.
Dogs: Rabies, DAPP (Distemper) & Bordetella (Kennel Cough)
Cats: Rabies & FVRCP (Distemper)
Pets with the following conditions will be turned away without exception:
- Severe Injuries – broken/ fractured bones
- Open wounds
- Stitches
- Heartworm Disease
Fleas, Lice, and Other Parasites: It is recommended that pets are kept on a flea and tick preventative. Pets with active fleas, lice, or other parasites will be denied service and must be treated and cleared by a veterinarian before they are eligible to be groomed. If a tick is found on your pet, the groomer will safely remove it and dispose of it, then will let you know at pick up so you can monitor the site for changes.
Behavior: Behavior is assessed at each grooming appointment and may vary from appointment to appointment. While our groomers understand pets may be a bit stressed, aggression of any kind is taken seriously as there is potential for injury to your pet and to the groomer. To aid in the grooming process – muzzles, e-collars (cones), slings, straps, etc. may be used in order to complete the groom in a safe way. While every effort is made to complete all aspects of your requested grooming service, the groomer reserves the right to end the grooming session at any point if deemed necessary due to behavior or your pet’s stress level. If this happens, the groomer will contact you and you will be asked to pick them up immediately.
Senior Pets: As with most activities, senior pets may be a bit more stressed during the grooming process. In return, groom times can be longer as more breaks and rest are often required. While grooms will be completed as quickly as possible, please allow your groomer more time to perform services. If services become too stressful for your pet, your groomer reserves the right to end the grooming session at any time, if deemed necessary. In these situations, your pet’s comfort is the goal and your groomer may discuss modifications to your pet’s groom to ensure we can achieve this. We often call this a ‘comfort groom’.
Matted Fur: Mats are tightly knotted fur that rests against your pet’s skin and can be extremely painful. They are unable to be brushed out and require your pet to be shaved in order to remove the matting safely.
Oftentimes, shaving mats may cause or reveal pre-existing conditions and or injuries such as, but not limited to: inflammation, infections, blood circulation issues, bruising, and mobility restrictions. Your groomer will make note of any of these concerns and follow up with you at pick up regarding how to best care for your pet’s coat moving forward. If you request to have the mats combed/brushed out, your groomer will only do so if it is determined that it will NOT cause your pet undue stress, pain or discomfort.
Please Note: Excessive de-matting is extremely painful, time-consuming, and can aggravate (or cause) skin problems. Groomers reserve the right to refuse de-matting procedures due to severity.
Kennels: Star Pet Grooming utility kennels during the period in which your pet is not being actively groomed. Kennels allow for a safe place for your pet to rest and take breaks.
In the instance your pet is unable to be safely kenneled, please inform Star Pet Grooming prior to booking an appointment; this may impact the times or days available for your appointment to be booked to accommodate. A “Speed Service” appointment will be required in these situations. Additional fees will apply.
Emergencies: Upon check-in, our groomer will require a number where you can be reached immediately while your pet is being groomed. In the event of a serious medical emergency, your pet will be examined and treated by the veterinarian on staff at Star Veterinary Centers and you will be contacted.
Star Pet Grooming is not liable, financially or otherwise, for any pre-existing conditions, injuries, or sudden death unrelated to the grooming experience.
Cancellation Policy: While we do understand that ‘life’ happens, we do expect all clients to arrive in a timely manner to their scheduled appointment. If you cannot make it to your appointment, please kindly call to cancel your appointment at least 24 hours in advance. Cancelling your appointment with less than 24 hours notice will result in a late cancellation fee of $15. You will also be required to place a non- refundable deposit of $15 for your next appointment. Refusal to pay these fees will result in an end to the client relationship.
Late Arrival Policy: Due to tightly booked schedules, we cannot accommodate late arrivals past the 10 minute mark. In the event of a late arrival, if our groomer is still able to service your pet they may ask you to modify the service based on time, and an additional $15 late arrival fee will be added to your final bill. We always ask that if you are running behind on arriving for your appointment, please call us to discuss expected arrival time.
No Call No Show Policy: Missing your pet’s appointment without notifying us in any way will be documented and will result in a No-Show fee of $30 per pet/per instance. You will also be required to place a non- refundable deposit of $15 for your next appointment. Refusal to pay these fees will result in an end to the client relationship. You are allowed up to 3 of these no show instances before the client relationship is ended.
Payment: All services are to be paid in full at the time services are rendered. Financial concerns should be discussed with the groomer prior to the start of grooming appointment. A written estimate may be provided upon request prior to services being rendered. As grooming service costs may vary depending on coat condition and behavior while in our care – estimates should not be considered an exact total.
Any services and or treatment rendered by the veterinarian on staff at Star Veterinary Centers will also be due in full at the time of pick up.
Payment Methods: Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, cash and check.
